WeChat with Anyone, Anywhere: IndiBlogger WeChat Contest: My Entry Number 13

My Entry to the 'WeChat with Anyone, Anywhere' IndiBlogger WeChat Contest:

Contest Question:

If you could connect with 5 or more people in a WeChat group - who would they be, and why? What would you talk about? The people can be dead, alive or even fictional.

My entry:

If I could connect with five or more people (note: people includes fictitious persons, as per the rules of the contest) in a WeChat group, they would be:

1.  Angelina Jolie

2.  Lissa Rankin, MD Doctor & NY Times best selling author of 'Mind over Medicine'

3.  Dr. P Raghuram, founding honorary secretary of Association of Breast Surgeons in India (ABSI)

4.  A spokesperson of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA)

5.  A spokesperson from the Breast Cancer Society Inc., recently voted as amongst America's best cancer charities.

6.  Me :)

To discuss what?

Yes, this is a fun contest.  But, there are some matters that are best discussed, understood and addressed so we can have truck loads of fun in our lives, all the time :)

So, choosing a topic very dear to me and scores of other women and girls: in this chat, i want to discuss "breast cancer: the reality, medical hexing, placebo effect".

The trigger for this chat: Angelina Jolie's recent decision after a breast cancer gene made her (based on her medical advice) believe she had an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer, we need to discuss, is that the right decision that can be replicated on a large scale basis? what should women at large resort to?

Dr. Lissa Rankin argues, quite evocatively, in two articles If Angelina Jolie was Medically Hexed? with Comprehensive look in this article.

The Medical hexing angle is relevant because, as she argues, by labeling a patient with a negative prognosis and robbing a patient of the hope that cure might be possible, we may ultimately make our negative diagnosis a self-fulfilling prophecy. Wouldn’t we be better off offering hope and triggering the mind to release health-inducing chemicals intended to aid the body’s self-repair mechanisms?
